Twitter down LIVE as X users complain of 'error in search engine'

Nearly 15,000 people are experiencing issues with X, formerly Twitter, on Friday afternoon (January 16).

According to Down Detector - a site which allows people to report technical issues they are experiencing with apps and websites - 58% of the reports are due to the app, 33% because of the website and 7% complaining of the feed or timeline.

The issues look to have started just before 3pm on Friday afternoon, with the first reports being made on Down Detector at 2:49pm.

Comments on Down Detector include: "It is down in NI Belfast the whole site is a no show says error in search engine", "Definitely down in Northern Ireland - disconnected", and "unable to reply to chat messages as keeps showing disconnected, feed not updating".

Number of reports decreasing

The number of reports being made on Down Detector are now decreasing. As of 4:15pm, around 800 reports were made of X not working as it should be.

At its peak at around 3pm, there were nearly 15,000 complaints.

Additional reports of Grok being down

As well as a page on Down Detector for those reporting issues with X, the site is also showing that hundreds of people are issuing reports of Grok not working too.

Grok is the artificial intelligence chatbot created by Elon Musk for X.

Reports started at the same time as those for X, just before 3pm, and one user has commented: "grok is continually replying with Grok was unable to finish replying. No matter what you request of it."

This map of the UK shows that the issues X users are experiencing are widespread across the UK, according to Down Detector.

It seems to be an intermittent fault though, with some users being able to access the website and app and others not.

People can write comments on Down Detector when issuing reports of technical difficulties.

On the X page, comments include: "Down for me", "was working for a little then went down again -_-", and "Had problems several days ago and now it's not loading my messages, following or for you".
